After a redesign for 2010, the 2011 mustang gets two new engines, as well as new transmissions and improvements to ride, handling, and noise. So the 2011 mustang represents a significant improvement over the superb 2010 edition of america's pony car, which was a large improvement over the 2004-2009 models, which was a major improvement over what came before that. the mustang has been in continuous production for 46 straight years, and more than 9 million mustangs have been built and sold to date. That gives the mustang the longest production run of any single model in ford history. the 2011 ford mustang comes in three body styles: coupe, convertible, and a glass-roof coupe. Each is available in both the traditional v6 model and the v8-powered mustang gt. Both engines are much more powerful this year. the 3. 7-liter v6 replaces the old 4. 0-liter v6, the new one producing 305 horsepower versus just 210 horses from the older, bigger engine. The new v8 marks the return of the 5. 0. An new all-aluminum engine, the 5. 0-liter v8 in the mustang gt produces 412 horsepower, which is far more than the 315 horsepower of the outgoing 4. 6-liter v8. Both new engines for 2011 get new six-speed manual and automatic transmissions versus the five-speeds of 2010. the ford shelby gt500 gains power for 2011, with a new aluminum version of the 5. 4-liter v8 producing 550 horsepower instead of the 500 ponies from the 2010 iron-block engine. We have not driven the new shelby gt500. Yet. the 2011 engines transform the mustang, providing the type of willing power pony car fans will love while improving fuel economy at the same time. The engines are lighter and the car has more rigidity, so the already impressive handling is that much better. the 2011 mustang is also quieter and more refined than ever, and, more importantly, it's an absolute blast to drive. It is quick off the mark with a brawny sound, crisp handling, a tight suspension, and much improved brakes. The comfort group 595) adds heated front seats and a six-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. With its 2010 redesign, ford gave a nod to the 1969-70 mustang with a new face that features a wider grille opening. other elements of the redesign could be seen as tributes to the past. The coupe's fastback roofline, unchanged from the last generation, recalls the original 1964. 5 mustang. The chamfered three-element taillamps, which house sequential turn signals that blink from the inside lamp to the outside lamp, were first found on the 1964 thunderbird, then the 1967-68 shelby mustangs and late '60s mercury cougars. And the hockey stick lower character line could be viewed as an homage to the lower portion of the side coves found on mustangs from 1964 to '68. compared to the last generation body style, ford said the 2010 mustang had 23 percent less aerodynamic lift at the front with a new slotted panel installed under the radiator to direct air, 50 percent better in front/rear lift balance, and seven percent less aerodynamic drag. For 2011, the company has lowered the front air dam and added a front splitter and an underbody aero shield to improve aerodynamics by another 4 percent. ford took several steps to improve noise, vibration and harshness for the 2010 model year, and the company has done even more for 2011. The weight savings are a definite advantage. the convertible comes standard with a power top with a glass rear window. The top uses two latches that the driver must operate, but they're within arm's reach and they latch and unlatch easily. interioranyone who hasn't been in a mustang for a couple of years will want to take a look at the 2011 model. The interior was much improved for 2010 and there are even more improvements for 2011. How times have changed. the fusion competes with the toyota camry, honda accord, chevrolet malibu, hyundai sonata and several other very good cars, and holds its own with any of them. All the ford fusion powerplants are competitive in power output and technological features, and all deliver impressive fuel economy. Even the lower-trim fusion models are smooth and quiet. The 2011 fusion hybrid delivers the highest epa mileage ratings of any midsize car: 41/36 mpg city/highway. all-wheel drive is available for the fusion, a rarity among midsize sedans. the fusion fits a range of budgets. The base car comes reasonably well equipped and with the optional 6-speed automatic transmission just cracks $20,000. Ford's voice-activated sync system, which easily pairs phones and audio devices with the car, is an inexpensive option on lower-trim models. High-trim fusions offer excellent, high-power sony audio, a sumptuous leather interior package, advanced electronic systems like blind-spot warning and one of the easiest-operating navigation systems anywhere. nicely enhanced with chrome, the fusion looks muscular and crisp, with more than a hint of euro panache. fusion comfortably seats five. Every model is roomy and comfortable, with one of the largest trunks in the class. with the 6-speed manual the fusion is almost a sports sedan. Many would also find the shape honest, simple and elegant. people seeing the flex for the first time generally agree it has presence and a variety of upscale cues. Those who find it attractive are reminded of the mini clubman and toyota fj cruiser, both of which share basic flex proportions and even color-contrasting tops. the flex may at heart be a functional people and cargo-carrier, but it's certainly not shy when it comes to exterior design. There's design everywhere, both in the overall look of the vehicle and in the details. A fair amount of brightwork, just short of bling, sets the flex apart and communicates upscale intentions. Sure, such detailing is a little finicky and over the top, but the flex would look a lot heavier if the indents weren't there. Another flex signature is the optional roof color of either warm white or silver. on the new titanium model, a black chrome grille, black trim around the park-and-turn lights, and darkened headlight bezels visually unite these different elements into a single, dark panel spanning the face of vehicle and wrapping around into the front fenders. Similarly, blacked-out nacelles make the fog lights disappear into the air opening below the bumper. The flex name is spelled out in bold, black capitals above the grille, a rather truck-like touch. Around back, the taillights and the trim panel between them get the same blackout treatment as the headlights and grille. A black-painted roof ties it all together. Ten-spoke, 20-inch alloy wheels are painted a color ford calls luster nickel, which has a subtle brightness that nicely complements the titanium's otherwise dark trim the flex is taller than most station wagons but significantly lower than such traditional suvs as the explorer and expedition.
